“Wings of Peace”
Paper lantern sculpture with paper
cranes
This work responds to the Concept of
Structures and conveys the devastation and damage caused in Japan by the
tsunami on the 11th of March 2011. Despite the physical devastation, it brought
the nation and world together in the support and aid of Japan. The lantern
suggests the globe and the light of the world, the spherical structure of the
Earth. The many cranes represent peace and symbolise the many nations coming
together as one to bond, strengthen and heal. ‘What doesn’t kill you makes you
stronger’.
