“Emotional Vanitas”
Encaustic Wax on paper and glass
The image of the overblown flower, a common Vanitas
symbol signifies the impermanence of states of being. In this case,
relationships once full and blossoming can wither leaving a trail of tears and
broken feelings in their wake, here represented by the cascade of petals. The
physical presence of the petals on closer inspection hides the sharp edges that
can so easily harm. With loves comes consequence, pain and the temptation to
fix what has broken but once the petals drop and hit the ground they shatter
and become almost impossible to fix.
