“Playful Clowns”

My concept was the Human Condition and
for my focus I wanted to portray how the media manipulates the emotional
meanings of images. I used the clown image traditionally connected to happy
memories and have imbued it with sinister connotations. The clean whites and straight-jacket
represent institutionalisation, the mask and the look in the eye confirms the
image connotations. I wanted to reflect the understanding of image power in the
public forum. Heath Leger as the Joker in “Dark Night” and the TV series
“Dexter” were stimulus material for this work.
