“The Beauty Underneath”
Ink, coloured pencils, watercolours on watercolour paper

The beauty of tragedy is one that is often forgotten or looked down upon for its absurdity and considered non-existent. It is simple to stare at misfortune and think only of ugliness; however what of the beauty that lies beneath? The beauty of life that is evident in both the joyous and tragic aspects of life. This piece depicts the horrors of nuclear war by conveying the bomb with falling fish exploding around large colorful faces.  The works are of surrealism and are drawn and coloured in with pencils and explosions of ink and watercolours are painted to surround them. The boldness of their expressions conveys intense emotion as the world is seemingly falling apart in a nuclear war, whilst the portrayal of symbols and imagery creates a beautiful metaphor for tragedy.
