“Self Portrait No3”
Gouache, pencil

“Self Portrait No3” is a realistic representation of myself. ‘I paint self-portraits because I am so often alone, because I am the person I know best.’ Frida Kahlo.  I found painting self portraits more effective as I am able to express myself and not worry whether I am making myself look obscure, I am the subject I know best. I have used brown, yellow and purple gouache to create a mellow vibe in the artwork which is the personality that best represents me. The positioning of the face, the mouth open, hair wispy and messy relates to my personality, which can be expressive or calm. The organic fluid drips in the foreground create a sense of serenity  as the head looks as if it is floating yet there are lines  to indicate my whole presence.
