“Mère et L’enfant” (Mother and Child)

My collage artwork is inspired by the
relationship between mother and child, the many portraits of Mary and Jesus
painted in the Renaissance period, along with stylistic influences of Henri
Toulouse- Lautrec.
The use of contrasting block colours of
dark purple and yellow, reflect the royal colours and the halos represent the
Renaissance period. The halos surround the lined and etched drawing of the
figures.
The phrase ‘La lumiere de ma vie’ are
the words of my mother when asked to describe her feelings about the original
photograph, meaning ‘light of my life.’
