Albert Bell
“Measured”
Photography and Mixed Media on Board

Many viewers may read my artwork differently but the overriding concept underpinning the artwork is how the world has become passive to anorexia, but also how it binds the people who are effected by it.  The artist George Gittoes predominantly influenced my artwork; as I liked the use of photographs and the way he used the aesthetic of the measuring tape to further exemplify the theme.  I constantly experimented with the aesthetic of the measuring tape using a number of mediums such as photography, printing, and modeling compound; I found that photography complemented the aesthetic of the measuring tape the most. Also in experimenting with my artwork I conducted a photo shoot addressing the aftereffects of anorexia such as unusual heart problems, based on this my model held and squeezed a heart to symbolize the heart problems. In reflection of this I addressed another side effect of anorexia, which leads to insanity this lead to my “tea cup” idea that came from a past student this idea consisted of coating a teacup words relating to insanity, which developed half a teacup due to the 3D element restriction. In resolving my artwork I collectivized my experiments into a body of work that came together quite nicely. I had some problems with materials for the framework of the artwork, as I couldn’t make a frame that aesthetically matched my artwork but ultimately I resolved my artwork through reflecting back on my decisions
