“The Avengers”
Watercolour on canvas
And there came a day, a day unlike any
other, when Earth's mightiest heroes and heroines found themselves united
against evil villains. The iconic
comic book characters of Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, and The Incredible
Hulk joined together and the Avengers were born. In my version of “The Avengers” I have appropriated the
concept of these superheroes, however, I have composed each figure from my
mental images of how they should ideally appear. I have cropped each comic book
hero to convey a sociological narrative about power and salvation. Larger than
life, my figures loom over the audience, filling the entire canvas. Violence
and corruption are evident all over our planet. Earth is in need of superheroes
now….let’s hope they appear.
