“Memories & Dreams”
Mixed media with oil marbling, charcoal and gesso

My work conjures up reminders of memories and dreams. I have tried to suggest fragments of reality within a dreamscape. The hints of nature in what is a representation of universal space anchor the viewer so they can explore this other world. Each colour is symbolic of emotions within the serendipitous composition while the natural objects stand for essential forms in Nature, our original home; a place where we can feel relaxed. It is a reminder of a meditative state of mind.

“Impermanence”
Graphite on mixed media paper with manila tags

I have created a metaphoric evolution that invites the audience to consider how new things can emerge in subtle and unexpected ways. ‘Impermanence’ focuses on how life is continuously changing in subtle and creative ways, but we expect permanence (of species, self, landforms etc.). Our idea of a cycle of life, dust is to dust and ashes to ashes can be disrupted. My work is based upon an obvious environmental context as well as a spiritual one. I have used free-hand drawing as my main technique, using directional line to create texture and layering.

“A Digital Fairy tale: Transformation”
Long Exposure Photography and Montage

Originally, fairy tales explored the mysterious ways of the natural world and the human place within it. Children were introduced to often-harsh lessons through magical symbols and imaginings. Contemporary photography techniques allow us to delve into other worlds in similar ways by constructing new realities. We have used long exposures, hand lit to make our piece.

“No Trespassing”
Acrylic paint and collage on canvas
Bob Brown wants to make everything green. He tried to make Coomera Creek a green zone. Forget the residents, forget their recreation and the reasons they bought into the place – he knows better. In this composition Bob Brown sits alone inside a useless boat, contemplating the lock out of the locals.

“Appropriation in the Mind of Someone Living”
Acrylic paint, timber Perspex, balsa wood, star wars figures and digital art

This work is completely appropriated from artists who are notorious for appropriation. Is this Art? Is it just postmodern to recontextualise others work? Where do we draw the line? When others take legal action? Thanks for this work goes to Barbara Kruger, Jeff Koons, Andy Warhol, Alistair McIntyre and of course Damien Hirst.

“Natural Beauty”
Collage, ink, pastel on paper
Natural beauty is fading as many women are turning to plastic surgery to create the ‘ideal’ perfection of beauty. Plastic surgery is not the answer to beautification, though many women are influenced to believe that going under the knife will preserve their youth. The figure in this piece symbolises the quest to find true beauty. The Cherry Blossom tree symbolises the characteristics of feminism, beauty, love, power, and sexuality. As a tree has deep roots, a woman must look deep within her heart, soul and mind to find her true beauty.

“Reflections”

Graphite, coloured pencil on paper

This artwork is a personal reflection of the self. The work illustrates the journey I have travelled in the last year and how I have been affected by certain situations, experiences, family and friends. The innocence of the eyes juxtaposed against the chaos of the entangled hair represents the bumpy road travelled and the many forks in my journey to adulthood. The red apple is symbolic of the many temptations and choices that await, and the unknown fate that lies ahead.
